Test 5B - Shorted Key In Ignition Circuit

CAUTION: Always turn ignition off prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS - 3.0L article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. Perform TEST VER-1 after each repair.
  1. Disconnect key in ignition switch connector. See Fig 1. Using scan tool, read key in ignition status. If scan tool does not display KEY IN IGN CLOSED, replace ignition switch. If scan tool displays KEY IN IGN CLOSED, go to next step.
  2. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) Black connector. BCM is located behind right side kick panel. Check condition of connector and clean or repair connector as necessary. If connector is okay, go to next step.
  3. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, check resistance of BCM Black connector terminal No. 2 (Light Blue wire). If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace BCM. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Light Blue wire.
