Test 72A - Inoperative Key-In Lamp

CAUTION: Always turn ignition off prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS - 3.0L article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. Perform TEST VER-1 after each repair.
  1. Turn ignition off. Center dimmer switch on left pod switch assembly. Close all doors and wait one minute. Open left door and observe courtesy lamps. If courtesy lamps do not illuminate, go to TEST 16A . If courtesy lamps illuminate, observe key-in lamp. If key-in lamp illuminates, go to step 5). If key-in lamp does not illuminate, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) Black connector. BCM is located behind right kick panel. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage on BCM Black connector terminal No. 22 (Yellow/Red wire). If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace BCM. If voltage is less than 10 volts, go to next step.
  3. Gain access to key in ignition switch connector. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode backprobe ignition switch connector terminal No. 3 (Yellow/Red wire). If voltage is more than 10 volts, repair open Yellow/Red wire. If voltage is less than 10 volts, go to next step.
  4. Backprobe key in ignition switch connector terminal No. 4 (Pink wire). If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open Pink wire. If voltage is more than 10 volts, repair or replace key in ignition lamp bulb socket.
  5. While observing key-in lamp, turn ignition on. If key-in lamp turns off, replace BCM. If key-in lamp does not turn off, key-in lamp is operational at this time.
