Test 8G - Bus Short To 5 Volts

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . For wiring diagrams, see WIRING DIAGRAMS - 3.0L article.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance between Body Control Module (BCM) Black connector terminals No. 1 (Tan wire) and No. 7 (Violet/Brown wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short between Tan and Violet/Brown wires.
  2. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, check resistance between BCM Black connector terminals No. 1 (Tan wire) and No. 20 (White/Black wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short between Tan and White/Black wires.
  3. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, check resistance between BCM Black connector terminals No. 2 (Light Blue wire) and No. 7 (Violet/Brown wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short between Light Blue and Violet/Brown wires.
  4. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, check resistance between BCM Black connector terminals No. 2 (Light Blue wire) and No. 20 (White/Black wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short between Light Blue and White/Black wires.
  5. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, check resistance between BCM Black connector terminals No. 7 (Violet/Brown wire) and No. 14 (Light Green/Red wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short between Violet/Brown and Light Green/Red wires.
  6. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, check resistance between BCM Black connector terminals No. 14 (Light Green/Red wire) and No. 20 (White/Black wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short between Light Green/Red and White/Black wires.
  7. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, ensure BCM connectors are connected. Check resistance between BCM case and ground. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair BCM case ground. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, check resistance between chassis ground and BCM Black connector terminal No. 19 (Black/Light Green wire). If resistance is more than 15 ohms, repair open in Black/Light Green wire. If resistance is less than 15 ohms, replace BCM.
