System Operation Check
CAUTION:
When battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle. See the COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES
article in the GENERAL INFORMATION section before disconnecting battery.
- Disconnect negative battery cable (if not previously disconnected). Connect Diagnostic Readout Box (DRB) to Air Bag System Diagnostic Module (ASDM) diagnostic connector, located at console. From passenger side of vehicle, turn ignition on. Exit vehicle with DRB. After ensuring no one is inside vehicle, reconnect negative battery cable.
- Using DRB, read and record any active or stored fault codes. If fault codes are not active, erase all stored fault codes. Fault codes will not erase if problem remains. From passenger side of vehicle, turn ignition off.
- Turn ignition on again and observe air bag warning light. It should come on for 6-8 seconds and then go out, indicating system is functioning properly. If warning light fails to come on, or stays on, a system malfunction exists.
