Test 49A - Headlights Inoperative In Auto Mode

NOTE: For connector terminal identification and wiring diagrams, see BODY CONTROL COMPUTER  section in this article. Perform TEST VER-1  VERIFICATION TEST after each repair.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition off prior to disconnecting any module connector.
  1. Using scan tool, actuate headlight relay. If headlights toggle on and off, replace Body Control Module (BCM). BCM is located behind right kick panel. If headlights do not toggle on and off, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect BCM Gray connector. Connect jumper wire between BCM Gray connector terminal No. 2 (Red/Dark Blue wire) and chassis ground. If headlights illuminate, replace BCM. If headlights do not illuminate, go to next step.
  3. Disconnect jumper wire. Remove headlight time delay relay from junction block. See Figure . Junction block is located behind end cover, on left side of instrument panel. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage on headlight time delay relay connector terminal "A" (Red/White wire). If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open Red/White wire. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step.
  4. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage on headlight time delay relay connector terminal "C" (Red/White wire). If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open Red/White wire. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step.
  5. Connect jumper wire between headlight time delay relay connector terminals "A" (Red/White wire) and "B" (Light Green wire). If headlights do not illuminate, repair open Light Green wire. If headlights illuminate, go to next step.
  6. Disconnect jumper wire. Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance of Red/Dark Blue wire between headlight time delay relay connector terminal "E" and BCM Gray connector terminal No. 2. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, repair open Red/Dark Blue wire. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace headlight time delay relay.
