Windshield Wiper Test 5C - Wipers Not Operating
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1998 Dodge Intrepid and 1998 Chrysler Concorde. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
Perform WINDSHIELD WIPER TEST 5A
before proceeding with this test. For connector terminal identification, refer to CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION
. For wiring diagrams, refer to WIRING DIAGRAMS
. Perform, after each repair, VERIFICATION TEST VER-1A - BODY VERIFICATION TEST
.
CAUTION:
Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect wiper ON/OFF relay from PDC. Disconnect wiper HI/LO relay. Using external ohmmeter, measure resistance between ground and terminal "D" (Red wire) on ON/OFF relay socket. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair Red wire circuit for short to ground. Replace fuse "M". If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, go to next step.
- Measure resistance between ground and terminal "B" (Dark Green/Yellow wire) on ON/OFF relay socket. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair Dark Green/Yellow wire for short to ground. Replace fuse "M". If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, go to next step.
- Disconnect wiper motor connector. Using external ohmmeter, measure resistance between ground and terminal "E" (Brown/White wire) on HI/LO relay socket. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair Brown/White wire for short to ground. Replace fuse "M". If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, go to next step.
- Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, measure resistance at terminal "D" (Red/Yellow wire) on HI/LO relay socket. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair Red/Yellow wire for short to ground. Replace fuse "M". If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, replace wiper motor. Replace fuse "M".
