Test 73C - Open Parking Brake Switch Circuit

NOTE: Perform TEST 73A  before proceeding with this test. For connector terminal ID, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For wiring schematics, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  in this article. Perform TEST VER-1 - VERIFICATION PROCEDURE  after each repair.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition off prior to disconnecting any module connector.
  1. Disconnect parking brake switch connector. Connector is located above brake pedal bracket. Connect jumper wire between ground and parking brake switch connector (Gray/Black wire). If BRAKE warning lamp illuminates, replace parking brake switch. If BRAKE warning lamp does not illuminate, go to next step.
  2. Leave jumper wire connected. Turn ignition off. Disconnect instrument cluster Gray connector. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, measure resistance at terminal No. 6 (Gray/Black wire) on instrument cluster Gray connector. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, repair open Gray/Black wire. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step.
  3. Remove and inspect BRAKE warning lamp. Replace lamp if necessary. If lamp is okay, repair or replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT PANEL article in the ACCESSORIES & ELECTRICAL section.
