Test 134A - Bus Short To 5 Volts

  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Transmission Control Module (TCM), if equipped. TCM is located at left front corner of engine compartment. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, replace TCM. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off and disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM). PCM is located under air cleaner. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, go to TEST 134B. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition off and disconnect anti-lock brake controller, if equipped. Controller is located on left fenderwell of engine compartment, behind anti-lock brake pump motor. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, replace anti-lock brake controller. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, go to next step.
  4. Disconnect Overhead Traveler Information System (OTIS) module connector, if equipped. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, replace OTIS module. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, go to next step.
  5. Turn ignition off and disconnect auto temp control head connector, if equipped. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, replace auto temp control head. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, go to next step.
  6. Turn ignition off and disconnect instrument cluster. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, replace instrument cluster. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, go to next step.
  7. Turn ignition off and disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) connectors. BCM is located behind right kick panel. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, go to TEST 134C. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, go to next step.
  8. Turn ignition off and wait 5 minutes. Disconnect Air Bag Control Module (ABCM) 13-pin connector. ABCM is located under center of instrument panel. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, replace ABCM. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, go to next step.
  9. Disconnect scan tool from Data Link Connector (DLC). Using an external voltmeter, measure voltage on BCM Bone connector, terminal No. 8 (Violet/Brown wire). If voltage is more than 4 volts, repair Violet/Brown wire for short to voltage. If voltage is 4 volts or less, go to next step.
  10. Measure voltage on BCM Bone connector, terminal No. 7 (White/Black wire). If voltage is more than 4 volts, repair White/Black wire for short to voltage. If voltage is 4 volts or less, replace scan tool cable or scan tool as necessary.
NOTE: For connector terminal ID, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For wiring schematics, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  in this article. Perform TEST VER-1 - VERIFICATION PROCEDURE  after each repair.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition off prior to disconnecting any module connector.
