Test 22A: Traction Control System Operation

  1. When ignition is first turned on, Green traction control function (TRAC CONT) light and Amber traction control warning (TRAC OFF) light should come on for 2 seconds as a bulb check and then go off. Both lights are located on message center at center of instrument panel. Go to next step.
  2. When traction control switch is depressed, Amber TRAC OFF light should come on. When traction control switch is depressed again, Amber TRAC OFF light should go off. Traction control switch momentarily grounds circuit to CAB terminal No. 9. Go to next step.
  3. When a wheel spin is detected on acceleration and brakes are not applied, traction control system will be activated and Green TRAC CONT light should come on. TRAC CONT light should go off when wheel spin is no longer detected. Go to next step.
  4. Traction control system operating time is recorded in CAB memory. If traction control system is on too long, CAB will not allow traction control operation and Amber TRAC OFF light should come on. CAB memory for this function receives voltage from power distribution center at CAB terminal No. 7. Go to next step.
  5. For individual testing of traction control system components, see TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM COMPONENT TESTS table.
