Instrument Cluster Test 14A - Communication Failure With Transmission Control Module

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1998 Dodge Intrepid and 1998 Chrysler Concorde. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Perform INSTRUMENT CLUSTER TEST 1A  before proceeding with this test. For connector terminal identification, refer to CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For wiring diagrams, refer to WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Perform, after each repair, VERIFICATION TEST VER-1A - BODY VERIFICATION TEST  .
CAUTION: Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. While monitoring PRND3L indicator lights, cycle ignition from OFF to RUN position. If all PRND3L indicator lights illuminate, go to next step. If all PRND3L indicator lights do not illuminate, replace instrument cluster.
  2. Using scan tool, select TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE. Select MONITORS in status displays. Monitor SLP status of shift lever position. While monitoring scan tool, move shift lever through all positions. If scan tool display matches shift lever position, replace instrument cluster. If scan tool display does not match shift lever position, see appropriate article in AUTO TRANS DIAGNOSIS Section.
