Parking Brake Switch Circuit Short To Ground

NOTE: Perform INSTRUMENT CLUSTER TEST 17A  before proceeding with this test. For connector terminal identification and wiring diagrams, see BODY CONTROL COMPUTER - INTRODUCTION. Perform VERIFICATION TEST: VER-2A  after each repair.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. Check brake fluid reservoir level. Fill as needed. Disconnect parking brake switch connector. If brake warning light is illuminated, go to next step. If brake warning light is not illuminated, replace parking brake switch.
  2. Disconnect brake fluid level switch connector. If brake warning light is illuminated, go to next step. If brake warning light is not illuminated, replace brake fluid level switch.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect instrument cluster. Using external ohmmeter, measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 3 (Gray/Black wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, replace instrument cluster.
  4. Disconnect ignition switch connector. See Figure. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 3 (Gray/Black wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair Gray/Black wire for short to ground. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, replace ignition switch.
