DTC P1195: Slow Upstream O2S During Catalyst Monitor

NOTE: For connector terminal ID, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
NOTE: Monitored with engine running, coolant temperature more than 170°F (77°C), open throttle, steady to slightly increasing vehicle speed (more than 18 MPH but less than 55 MPH), with a light load on engine for no less than 5 minutes. Set condition is when O2S voltage is switching from less than .39 volts to more than .6 volts and back fewer times than required. Possible causes are: O2S 1/1 ground circuit open, O2S 1/1 connector failure, O2S 1/1 defective, engine uses oil or coolant, exhaust system leaks or PCM connector defective.
  1. O2S 1/1 is located upstream of catalytic converter. Start engine and idle. Inspect exhaust for excessive smoke caused by oil or coolant consumption. If an oil or coolant consumption problem is not present, go to next step. If an oil or coolant consumption problem is present, repair engine mechanical failure as necessary and O2S 1/1. Perform TEST VER-5A: ROAD TEST FOR OBD II VERIFICATION  .
  2. Inspect exhaust system for leaks between engine and catalytic converter. If exhaust leaks are not present, go to next step. If exhaust leaks are present, repair or replace exhaust components as necessary. Perform TEST VER-5A: ROAD TEST FOR OBD II VERIFICATION  .
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect O2S 1/1 connector. Inspect electrical connector and clean/repair as necessary. Using a DVOM, check resistance between O2S 1/1 connector (harness side) sensor ground circuit (Black/Orange wire) and chassis ground. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open sensor ground circuit. Perform TEST VER-5A: ROAD TEST FOR OBD II VERIFICATION  .
  4. Inspect O2S 1/1 connector for corroded, damaged, pushed out or miswired terminals. If connector and wiring are okay, go to next step. If connector and wiring is not okay, repair or replace as necessary. Perform TEST VER-5A: ROAD TEST FOR OBD II VERIFICATION  .
  5. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connector C2 (located nearest to rear of vehicle) and PCM connector C1 (located nearest to front of vehicle). PCM is located to left of Power Distribution Center (PDC) in engine compartment. Inspect PCM connectors for corroded, damaged, pushed out or miswired terminals. If connectors are okay, go to next step. If connectors are not okay, repair as necessary. Perform TEST VER-5A: ROAD TEST FOR OBD II VERIFICATION  .
  6. If no other potential causes are remaining, O2S 1/1 is assumed to be defective. Replace O2S 1/1. Perform TEST VER-5A: ROAD TEST FOR OBD II VERIFICATION  .
