Test NTC-22: Checking Speed Control On/Off Switch
NOTE:
Possible causes are: ground circuit open, speed control SET/RESUME switch voltage more than 4 volts, speed control switch signal circuit shorted to voltage, speed control switch signal circuit short to ground, speed control ON/OFF switch voltage less than one volt, speed control ON/OFF switch voltage more than 4 volts, PCM defective or PCM speed control switch to ground open circuit.
- Turn ignition on with engine off. Using scan tool, read speed control switch voltage. If voltage is more than 4 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 4 volts or less, go to step 6 .
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect speed control ON/OFF switch connector. Inspect electrical connector and clean/repair as necessary. Turn ignition on with engine off. Using a DVOM, check voltage of speed control switch signal circuit (Pink/Light Green wire) at speed control ON/OFF switch connector (harness side). If voltage is 4 volts or less, go to next step. If voltage is more than 4 volts, repair open ground circuit (Black/Tan wire). Perform TEST VER-4A: SPEED CONTROL VERIFICATION .
- Using a DVOM, check voltage of speed control switch signal circuit from speed control switch connector (Pink/Light Green wire) and chassis ground. If voltage is 6 volts or less, go to next step. If voltage is more than 6 volts, repair speed control switch signal circuit short to ground. Perform TEST VER-4A: SPEED CONTROL VERIFICATION .
- Turn ignition off. Connect a jumper wire between speed control ON/OFF switch connector (harness side) (Pink/Light Green wire) and chassis ground. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, read speed control switch voltage. If voltage is one volt or more, go to next step. If voltage is less than one volt, replace speed control ON/OFF switch. Perform TEST VER-4A: SPEED CONTROL VERIFICATION .
- If no other potential causes are remaining, PCM is assumed to be defective. Replace PCM. PCM is located to left of Power Distribution Center (PDC) in engine compartment. Perform TEST VER-4A: SPEED CONTROL VERIFICATION .
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect speed control SET/RESUME switch connector. Inspect electrical connector and clean/repair as necessary. Turn ignition on with engine off. Using scan tool, read speed control switch voltage. If voltage is 4 volts or less, go to next step. If voltage is more than 4 volts, replace speed control SET/RESUME switch. Perform TEST VER-4A: SPEED CONTROL VERIFICATION .
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect speed control ON/OFF switch connector. Inspect electrical connector and clean/repair as necessary. Turn ignition on with engine off. Using scan tool, read speed control switch voltage. If voltage is 4 volts or less, go to next step. If voltage is more than 4 volts, replace speed control ON/OFF switch. Perform TEST VER-4A: SPEED CONTROL VERIFICATION .
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connector C2 (located nearest to rear of vehicle). PCM is located to left of Power Distribution Center (PDC) in engine compartment. Inspect electrical connector and clean/repair as necessary. Using a DVOM, check resistance of speed control switch signal circuit (Pink/Light Green wire) to speed control switch ground circuit (Black/Tan wire). If resistance is 5.1 k/ohms or more, go to next step. If resistance is less than 5.1 k/ohms, repair speed control switch signal circuit short to ground. Perform TEST VER-4A: SPEED CONTROL VERIFICATION .
- If no other potential causes are remaining, PCM is assumed to be defective. Replace PCM. Perform TEST VER-4A: SPEED CONTROL VERIFICATION .
