Open Seat Belt Switch Circuit

NOTE: Perform CHIME TEST 4A  before proceeding with this test. For connector terminal identification and wiring diagrams, see BODY CONTROL COMPUTER - INTRODUCTION article. Perform VERIFICATION TEST: VER-2A  after each repair.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition off prior to disconnecting any module connector.
  1. Turn ignition on. Ensure driver's seat belt is unfastened. Using scan tool, read seat belt switch status. If scan tool displays SEAT BELT: OPEN, go to next step. If scan tool does not display SEAT BELT: OPEN, go to CHIME TEST 4B .
  2. Fasten driver's seat belt. Read seat belt switch status. If scan tool displays SEAT BELT: CLOSED, system is currently operating correctly. If scan tool does not display SEAT BELT: CLOSED, go to next step.
  3. Disconnect driver's seat belt switch connector. Read seat belt switch status. If scan tool displays SEAT BELT: CLOSED, go to next step. If scan tool does not display SEAT BELT: CLOSED, replace driver's seat belt switch.
  4. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) Blue 16-pin connector C4. BCM is mounted to junction block located behind left end cap of instrument panel. See Figure. Using external ohmmeter, measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 15 (Light Green/Red wire) on BCM Blue harness connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair Light Green/Red wire for short to ground. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, replace BCM.
