Oil Pressure Switch Sense Circuit Short To Ground

NOTE: Perform INSTRUMENT CLUSTER TEST 1A  before proceeding with this test. For connector terminal identification and wiring diagrams, see BODY CONTROL COMPUTER - INTRODUCTION. Perform VERIFICATION TEST: VER-2A  after each repair.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. Turn ignition on. If oil warning light illuminates, go to next step. If oil warning light does not illuminate, go to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER TEST 15B . Turn ignition off.
  2. Turn ignition off. Check engine oil level. Adjust as needed. Disconnect oil pressure switch. See Fig 1. If oil pressure warning light is illuminated, go to step  5. If oil pressure warning light is not longer illuminated, go to next step.
  3. Remove oil pressure switch. Using appropriate pressure gauge, start engine and read oil pressure. If oil pressure is 4 PSI or greater, go to next step. If oil pressure is less than 4 PSI, see appropriate article in ENGINES.
  4. Allow engine to reach normal operating temperature. If oil pressure is 4 PSI or greater, replace oil pressure switch. If oil pressure is less than 4 PSI, see appropriate article in ENGINES.
  5. Disconnect instrument cluster. Using external ohmmeter, measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 10 (Gray wire) on instrument cluster Blue 10-pin connector C2. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair Gray wire for short to ground. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, repair or replace instrument cluster.
