Parking Brake Warning Light Malfunction

NOTE: Perform INSTRUMENT CLUSTER TEST 1A  before proceeding with this test. For connector terminal identification and wiring diagrams, see BODY CONTROL COMPUTER - INTRODUCTION. Perform VERIFICATION TEST: VER-2A  after each repair.
  1. If vehicle is equipped with anti-lock brakes, see appropriate ANTI-LOCK article in BRAKES. If vehicle is not equipped with anti-lock brakes, go to next step.
  2. Ensure parking brake is released and operates correctly with no binding. Inspect brake pedal operation. If brake pedal does not operate correctly, see appropriate article in BRAKES. If brake pedal operates correctly, go to next step.
  3. If brake warning light does not illuminate with empty brake fluid reservoir, go to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER TEST 17B . If brake warning light does illuminate with empty brake fluid reservoir, go to next step.
  4. Turn ignition on. If parking brake warning light is illuminated, go to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER TEST 17D . If parking brake warning light is not illuminated, go to next step.
  5. Depress parking brake. If parking brake warning light is illuminated, go to next step. If parking brake warning light is not illuminated, go to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER TEST 17C .
  6. Release parking brake. Crank engine while monitoring parking brake warning light. If parking brake warning light is illuminated, system is currently operating correctly. If parking brake warning light is not illuminated, replace instrument cluster.
