Identifying Overhead Travel Information System (OTIS) Malfunctions

NOTE: Perform SYSTEM ID TEST 1A  before proceeding with this test. For connector terminal identification and wiring diagrams, see BODY CONTROL COMPUTER - INTRODUCTION. Perform VERIFICATION TEST: VER-2A  after each repair.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. Using scan tool, select BODY, then OTIS. If scan tool displays NO RESPONSE, go to TEST 8A in appropriate VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS article. If any other communication problem exists, go to TEST 1A in appropriate VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS article. If no communication problem exists, go to next step.
  2. Select AUTO SELF TEST and observe OTIS screen. If any OTIS segments fail to illuminate, replace OTIS module. If OTIS screen displays FAIL, replace OTIS module. If OTIS screen does not show any communication, replace Body Control Module (BCM).
  3. Diagnosis of OTIS system is separated into 9 faults. Identify fault(s) listed in OTIS SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC TEST DIRECTORY table and perform indicated test(s) and perform indicated test(s).
  4. If OTIS fails to respond to instrument cluster dimming, replace OTIS module. Calibrate compass if inoperative or wrong. See owner's manual. If compass goes blank, replace OTIS module.

(1) Average MPG or fuel economy is inoperative or wrong. MPG calculations are only accurate to within 10 miles.
