Identifying Sentry Key Immobilizer System (Skis) Problems

    NOTE: Ensure all of the customer's keys are obtained before beginning SKIS diagnosis and repair. If the Sentry Key Immobilizer Module (SKIM) requires replacing, all keys must be reprogrammed to new SKIM.
  1. Ensure battery is fully charged. Using scan tool, select THEFT ALARM, then SKIM. If scan tool displays NO RESPONSE, go to TEST 16A in appropriate VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS article.
  2. Using scan tool, read and record SKIM DTCs (fault messages). Erase SKIM DTCs. Cycle ignition switch to OFF, then RUN/START position. Leave ignition in RUN/START position for 3 minutes. Read SKIM DTCs to verify that codes displayed are current faults. See SKIS DIAGNOSTIC TEST DIRECTORY  table. If no codes (fault messages) are present, go to PRE-EXISTING FAULT MESSAGE TEST DIRECTORY  table.

    (1) Replace SKIM and perform SKIM INITIALIZATION PROCEDURE .
    (2) See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. After repair, go to SKIS TEST 4A .
    (3) When attempting to send secret key to PCM.
    (4) Fault maturity time is approximately 20 seconds.
    (5) Fault maturity time is approximately 4 seconds.
