Seat Belt Indicator Not Operating Properly
- Turn ignition on. If seat belt indicator illuminates, go to next step. If seat belt indicator does not illuminate, replace instrument cluster.
- Turn ignition off. Buckle driver's seat belt. Turn ignition on. If seat belt indicator goes out, go to next step. If seat belt indicator does not go out, go to step 8 .
- Unbuckle driver's seat belt. If seat belt indicator does not illuminate, go to next step. If seat belt indicator illuminates, problem is intermittent.
- Turn ignition off. Ensure driver's seat belt is unbuckle. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, check seat belt switch status. If CLOSED is not displayed, go to next step. If CLOSED is displayed, replace instrument cluster.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect seat belt switch harness connector. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No.2 (Black wire) at seat belt switch harness connector. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Black wire between seat belt switch and ground.
- Using a fused jumper wire, connect terminals No. 1 (Light Green/Red wire) and No. 2 (Black wire) at seat belt switch harness connector. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, check seat belt switch status. If CLOSED is not displayed, go to next step. If CLOSED is displayed, replace seat belt switch.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) harness connector C4. Measure resistance in Light Green/Red wire between terminal No. 1 at seat belt switch harness connector and terminal No. 15 at BCM harness connector C4. See Figure . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace BCM. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Light Green/Red wire between seat belt switch and BCM.
- Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition on. Buckle driver's seat belt. Using scan tool, check seat belt switch status. If OPEN is not displayed, go to next step. If OPEN is displayed, replace instrument cluster.
- Disconnect seat belt switch harness connector. Using scan tool, check seat belt switch status. If OPEN is not displayed, go to next step. If OPEN is displayed, replace seat belt switch.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) harness connector C4. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 15 (Light Green/Red wire) at BCM harness connector C4. See Figure . If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace BCM. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair short to ground in Light Green/Red wire between seat belt switch and BCM.
