Description & Operation
Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) system allows locking and unlocking of vehicle doors and trunk by remote control, using a hand-held radio transmitter. The transaxle must be in Park before the trunk lid can be unlocked with the transmitter. The RKE module (receiver) may receive signals from up to 4 transmitters. Each transmitter has its own ID code stored in receiver memory. The ID of each transmitter never changes. If the transmitter is replaced, or another added, the code from all units has to be programmed into memory. See PROGRAMMING TRANSMITTER under PROGRAMMING. The receiver is capable of retaining Vehicle Access Code (VAC) in memory even when power is removed. Each receiver must be programmed with at least one, but no more than 4 transmitters. The transmitter will operate within approximately 40 ft. (12 m) of the receiver. The transmitter has 2 replaceable 3-volt batteries.
The transmitter has 4 buttons for operation: PANIC, LOCK, UNLOCK and TRUNK release. When PANIC button is pressed, panic mode is enabled. Driver's door unlocks, interior lights come on, the horn sounds and headlights flash approximately once per second. Panic mode can be cancelled by pressing PANIC button or will reset after three minutes. Panic will also cancel when vehicle speed reaches 15 MPH.
When LOCK button is pressed, park lights will flash, indicating that "all doors lock signal" has been received. When signal is received, doors are locked, illuminated entry is cancelled, interior lights fade off and horn will chirp (if enabled). See PROGRAMMING HORN ENABLE/DISABLE under PROGRAMMING. The UNLOCK button will unlock the driver's door and light the illuminated entry system. Pushing and releasing the UNLOCK button once will unlock the driver's door. Pushing the button twice within 5 seconds will unlock all doors. Pressing TRUNK release button once or twice (customer programmed preference) within 2 seconds will open trunk. See PROGRAMMING TRUNK RELEASE under PROGRAMMING.
