A/C Clutch Relay

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Dodge Intrepid, 2003 Chrysler Intrepid, 2003 Chrysler Concorde, and 2003 Chrysler 300M. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: For additional A/C clutch relay circuit testing, see DTC P0645: A/C CLUTCH RELAY CIRCUIT under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - CONCORDE, INTREPID & 300M.
NOTE: For circuit identification and wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If Powertrain Control Module (PCM) is replaced, PCM must be reprogrammed. See PROGRAMMING in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - CONCORDE, INTREPID & 300M article. After each repair procedure has been completed, reconnect all components. Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER-2 under VERIFICATION TESTS in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - CONCORDE, INTREPID & 300M article to ensure system is functioning properly.
  1. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, actuate A/C clutch relay. A/C clutch relay is located in Power Distribution Center (PDC). See Figure . PDC is located on left side of engine compartment, in front of coolant bottle. See Figure . If A/C clutch relay is not actuating, go to next step. If A/C clutch relay is actuating, A/C clutch relay output circuit is operating properly at this time. Test is complete.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect A/C compressor clutch harness connector. Measure resistance between ground and Black wire at A/C compressor clutch harness connector. See Fig 1 . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in ground circuit.
  3. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, actuate A/C clutch relay. Measure voltage between ground and A/C clutch relay output circuit (Dark Blue/Black wire) at A/C compressor clutch harness connector. If voltage is 11 volts or less, go to next step. If voltage is more than 11 volts, replace A/C compressor clutch.
  4. Turn ignition off. Remove A/C clutch relay from PDC. Connect a test light between ground and fused battery voltage circuit (Red/Brown wire) at A/C clutch relay harness connector terminal "B" in PDC. See Figure . If test light illuminates brightly, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate brightly, repair open or short in fused battery voltage circuit.
  5. Measure resistance of A/C clutch relay output circuit (Dark Blue/Black wire) between A/C compressor clutch harness connector and A/C clutch relay harness connector terminal "D" in PDC. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace A/C clutch relay. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in A/C clutch relay output circuit.
