System Operation Check

- Turn key to OFF position. Gearshift lever movement from Park should be possible.
- Turn key to ON/RUN position. Gearshift lever movement from Park should not be possible. Depress brake pedal. Gearshift lever movement from Park should now be possible.
- Leave gearshift lever in any gear range and attempt to return key to LOCK or ACC position. Key movement to LOCK or ACC position should not be possible.
- Return gearshift lever to Park and attempt to remove key. Key should be removable after returning ignition switch to LOCK position. With key removed, attempt to move gearshift lever out of Park. Gearshift lever movement from Park should not be possible.
- If system operation is not as specified, adjustment may be required. See ADJUSTMENTS . If shift interlock electrical system malfunction is suspected, diagnose and repair as necessary. See SYMPTOM TESTS .
