High Beam Headlights Will Not Turn On

  1. Turn headlights on. Cycle high beams on and off. If high beam relay clicks, go to next step. If high beam relay does not click, go to step  4 .
  2. Remove high beam relay from junction block. Measure voltage at terminal No. 58 at high beam relay socket on junction block. See Figure . If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair power distribution circuit as necessary. See POWER DISTRIBUTION article in WIRING DIAGRAMS.
  3. Using a fused jumper wire, connect terminals No. 58 and 59 at high beam relay socket on junction block. If high beams illuminate, replace high beam relay. If high beams do not illuminate, repair open in wiring between high beam relay and headlights.
  4. Check fuse No. 11 (20-amp) in junction block. If fuse is blown, go to next step. If fuse is okay, go to step  7 .
  5. Remove fuse No. 11 from junction block. Disconnect multifunction switch harness connector. Measure resistance between ground and output side of fuse No. 11 in junction block. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair short to ground in Brown/White wire between junction block and multifunction switch.
  6. Remove high beam relay from junction block. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 57 at high beam relay socket on junction block. See Figure . If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace high beam relay. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair short to ground in White/Light Green wire between high beam relay and multifunction switch.
  7. Remove high beam relay from junction block. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 56 at high beam relay socket on junction block. See Figure . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Black wire between junction block and ground.
  8. Turn high beams on. Measure voltage at terminal No. 57 at high beam relay socket on junction block. If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step. If battery voltage exists, replace high beam relay.
  9. Turn headlights off. Turn ignition off. Disconnect headlight switch harness connector at multifunction switch. Turn low beams on. Measure voltage at terminal No. 4 (Brown/White wire) at headlight switch harness connector. See Figure . If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open in Brown/White wire between headlight switch and junction block.
  10. Ensure high beam relay is installed. Using a fused jumper wire, connect terminals No. 4 (Brown/White wire) and No. 7 (White/Light Green wire) at headlight switch harness connector. If high beams illuminate, replace headlight switch. If high beams do not illuminate, repair open in White/Light Green wire between headlight switch harness connector and junction block.
