Cruise On Indicator Not Operating Properly

  1. Turn ignition off. Turn ignition on and observe cruise on indicator. If cruise on indicator illuminates for 3-10 seconds, go to next step. If cruise on indicator does not illuminate for 3-10 seconds, go to step  4 .
  2. Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, retrieve Powertrain Control Module (PCM) DTCs. If no DTCs exist, go to next step. If any DTCs exist, repair powertrain concern as necessary. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
  3. Test drive vehicle and operate cruise control. If cruise control operate properly, replace instrument cluster. If cruise control does not operate properly, repair cruise control system as necessary. See appropriate CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEMS article.
  4. Using scan tool, attempt to communicate with Powertrain Control Module (PCM). If communication was established, go to next step. If communication was not established, repair communication concern. See NO RESPONSE FROM POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCI BUS)  under COMMUNICATIONS.
  5. Turn ignition off. Inspect cruise on indicator bulb and socket on instrument cluster. If problem exists, repair or replace as necessary. If problem does not exist, replace instrument cluster.
