PRND3L Indicator Malfunctions

  1. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, attempt to communicate with Mechanical Instrument Cluster (MIC). If communication was established, go to next step. If communication was not established, repair communication concern. See MIC MESSAGE NOT RECEIVED  under COMMUNICATIONS.
  2. Turn ignition off. Turn ignition on while observing PRND3L display. If all indicators illuminate, go to next step. If any indicators do not illuminate, replace instrument cluster.
  3. Using scan tool, access Transmission Control Module (TCM) and monitor shift lever status. Engage parking brake. Shift gear selector thought all gears. If scan tool display agrees with gear selected, replace instrument cluster. If scan tool display does not agree with gear selected, repair transmission range sensor input to TCM.
