Traction On Indicator Not Operating Properly

  1. Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, attempt to communicate with Controller Anti-Lock Brake (CAB) module. If communication was established, go to next step. If communication was not established, repair communication concern. See NO RESPONSE FROM CAB  under COMMUNICATIONS.
  2. Using scan tool, retrieve CAB DTCs. If no DTCs exist, go to next step. If any DTCs exist, repair anti-lock brake system as necessary. See appropriate ANTI-LOCK article in BRAKES.
  3. Turn ignition off. Turn ignition on. If traction on indicator illuminates for 3-10 seconds, go to next step. If traction on indicator does not illuminate for 3-10 seconds, go to step  6 .
  4. Turn ignition off. Turn ignition on. Turn traction control on and off. Wait 10 seconds. If traction on indicator is never illuminated, go to next step. If traction on indicator is always illuminated, replace instrument cluster.
  5. Drive vehicle to safe slippery area. From a stop, accelerate hard. If traction control is operating, replace instrument cluster. If traction control is not operating, repair traction control system as necessary or replace CAB module as necessary. See appropriate ANTI-LOCK article in BRAKES.
  6. Check traction on indicator bulb. If bulb is okay, replace instrument cluster. If bulb is defective, replace bulb.
