Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) Module

Vehicle Theft Security System (VTSS) module is integrated into RKE module. Also see VEHICLE THEFT SECURITY SYSTEM (VTSS) MODULE . RKE module controls power door locks and VTSS. RKE module also wakes up Mechanical Instrument Cluster (MIC) module when it senses a signal from RKE transmitter. RKE module communicates with other modules via the Programmable Communication Interface (PCI) bus circuit.

RKE module monitors Air Bag Control Module (ACM) messages to check for air bag deployment signal. An Enhanced Accident Response Feature (EARF) is activated if air bag deployment signal is received, ignition is on and vehicle speed is zero MPH. EARF will unlock all doors, and illuminate instrument cluster and courtesy lights.

RKE module also communicates with Powertrain Control Module (PCM) to receive vehicle speed information to activate rolling door lock, to receive "okay to lock" message, Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and body style information. Vehicle Access Code (VAC) from up to 4 RKE transmitters can be programmed into RKE module memory. Horn chirp feature on vehicle lock command is programmable. See REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEMS - NEON article.
