Test NTC-5: Checking Fuel Delivery
- Release fuel pressure. SeeFUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE . Connect fuel pressure gauge to fuel pressure test port on fuel rail. Fuel pressure test port is located on fuel rail. Turn ignition on with engine off. Using scan tool, actuate ASD fuel system test and note fuel pressure. Record fuel pressure. Fuel pressure should be 44.2-54.2 psi (3.1-3.8 kg/cm2 ). If fuel pressure exceeds specification, replace fuel filter/pressure regulator assembly. Fuel filter/pressure regulator assembly is mounted on fuel pump module in fuel tank. Perform TEST VER-5A . If fuel pressure is within specification, go step 4. If fuel pressure is less than specified, go to next step.
- Shut engine off. Release fuel pressure. See FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE . Disconnect fuel pressure line at fuel pump module. Install 5/16" Fuel Line Adapter (6539) between disconnected fuel line and fuel pump module. Attach fuel pressure gauge to fuel line adapter "T" fitting. Turn ignition on with engine off. Using scan tool, actuate ASD FUEL SYSTEM TEST. If fuel pressure is 44.2-54.2 psi (3.1-3.8 kg/cm2 ), replace fuel filter/pressure regulator assembly. Perform TEST VER-5A . Using scan tool, stop all actuations. If fuel pressure is not 44.2-54.2 psi (3.1-3.8 kg/cm2 ), go to next step.
- Shut engine off. Release fuel pressure. See FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE . Remove fuel pump module from fuel tank. Inspect fuel inlet strainer. If fuel inlet strainer is clear, replace fuel pump module. Perform TEST VER-5A . If fuel strainer is plugged, replace fuel inlet strainer. Perform TEST VER-5A .
- Turn ignition off. Release fuel pressure. See FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE . Disconnect fuel pressure line at fuel rail. Install 5/16" Fuel Line Adapter (6539) or 3/8" Fuel Line Adapter (6631) disconnected fuel line. Install other end of adapter in graduated container. Turn ignition on with engine off. Using scan tool, actuate ASD FUEL SYSTEM TEST for 7 seconds. DO NOT run ASD FUEL SYSTEM TEST for more than 7 seconds or fuel pump damage may occur. If fuel pump supplied .26 quart (1/4 liter), test is complete. If fuel pump supply is not as specified, check for kinked or damaged supply line between fuel tank and fuel rail. If okay, replace fuel filter/pressure regulator assembly.
WARNING:
Fuel system is under high pressure and fuel pressure must be released before opening fuel system.
