Test NTC-9: Checking Intake Air Temperature Sensor

NOTE: When performing this test, DO NOT allow more than 5 minutes between measuring temperature of intake air temperature sensor with scan tool and measuring the air temperature on inside of intake manifold with temperature probe.
  1. Turn ignition on with engine off. Using scan tool, measure and record temperature of intake air temperature sensor. Turn ignition off.
  2. Note location of MAP sensor on intake manifold. See Fig 1 . Remove MAP sensor from intake manifold. Using temperature probe, quickly measure air temperature on inside of intake manifold through the MAP sensor opening on intake manifold.

  3. If temperature of intake air temperature sensor on scan tool is within 10 degrees of temperature obtained on temperature probe, intake air temperature sensor is okay. Test is complete. If temperature of intake air temperature sensor on scan tool is not within 10 degrees of temperature obtained on temperature probe, replace intake air temperature sensor. Intake air temperature sensor is screwed into intake manifold and contains a 2-pin connector. See Fig 1 . Perform TEST VER-2A  .
