Retrieving Diagnostic Trouble Codes: Notes

NOTE: Battery must be fully charged before retrieving DTCs. If low battery voltage exists, Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) may not be output from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). If MIL is illuminated by a malfunction of the PCM, scan tool cannot communicate with PCM. DTCs cannot be read with a malfunctioning PCM.
NOTE: DTCs may be retrieved by using Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) on instrument panel, using Chrysler's Diagnostic Readout Box (DRBIII®) scan tool or generic scan tool. The DRBIII scan tool has the ability to display all DTCs for system diagnosis. Generic scan tool may not be able to display all DTCs for malfunctioning system or components. MIL will display all DTCs for all malfunctioning systems or components, but is unable to indicate specific problem area, such as cylinder misfire or injector control circuits.
