Shut engine off and leave ignition on. Using scan tool manufacturer's instructions, record all DTCs and freeze frame data. If scan tool is able to communicate with PCM and all vehicle systems, go to step  3.
  2. If scan tool is unable to communicate with PCM or all vehicle systems, perform appropriate communication failure test. See TEST NTC-1: NO TROUBLE CODE TEST MENU  under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS.
  3. If any DTCs are displayed, perform appropriate diagnostic test under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS. To determine appropriate procedure to perform, see DTC & TEST IDENTIFICATION  table under DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS.
  4. After repair is complete, clear DTCs from PCM memory. See CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES . If no DTCs are displayed, diagnose by symptom. See TEST NTC-1: NO TROUBLE CODE TEST MENU  under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS.
