DTC P0441: EVAP Purge Flow Monitor Failure

NOTE: EVAP purge flow monitor is monitored when engine coolant temperature is more than 170°F (76.7°C), engine is in closed loop, engine has been idling for 2 minutes, no low fuel condition exists, Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor vacuum is less than 15.7 in. Hg and altitude is less than 8000 feet. DTC may be stored in Powertrain Control Module (PCM) if no air flow through EVAP system is detected by EVAP monitor. Possible causes are; defective or restricted EVAP system hoses or lines, defective EVAP purge solenoid or defective EVAP canister. EVAP purge solenoid may also be referred to as proportional purge solenoid.
  1. Turn ignition on with engine off. Using scan tool, check for DTCs. If GLOBAL GOOD TRIP counter is not displayed and equal to zero, go to next step. If GLOBAL GOOD TRIP counter is displayed and equal to zero, go to step  3 .
  2. At this time, conditions for EVAP purge flow monitor failure does not exist or is an intermittent problem. Using scan tool, read FREEZE FRAME data and PURGE FLOW PRE-TEST data while attempting to duplicate the condition that caused DTC to be set. If DTC P0441: EVAP PURGE FLOW MONITOR FAILURE reoccurs, go to next step. If DTC P0441: EVAP PURGE FLOW MONITOR FAILURE does not reoccur, condition no longer exists. Perform TEST VER-5A3  .
  3. Inspect all vacuum hoses for proper routing and check vacuum hoses from engine to EVAP purge solenoid, and from EVAP purge solenoid to the fuel tank for restrictions. EVAP purge solenoid is located near passenger's side front corner of engine compartment. See Fig 1 . EVAP canister is located just above passenger's side corner of fuel tank. If all hoses are okay, go to next step. If any hoses are improperly routed or restricted, repair as necessary. Perform TEST VER-5A3  .

  4. Remove EVAP purge solenoid. Lightly tap ports on EVAP purge solenoid on a clean solid surface. If foreign material comes out of ports on EVAP purge solenoid, go to next step. If foreign material does not come out of ports on EVAP purge solenoid, replace EVAP purge solenoid. Perform TEST VER-5A3  .
  5. Inspect vacuum line from EVAP purge solenoid to EVAP canister. If vacuum line is disconnected, ripped or cut, repair or replace the vacuum line as necessary and replace EVAP purge solenoid. Perform TEST VER-5A3  . If vacuum line is not disconnected, ripped or cut, clean out vacuum line as necessary, and replace EVAP purge solenoid and EVAP canister. Perform TEST VER-5A3  .
