Test NTC-15: Checking Fuel Pressure

WARNING: Fuel system is under high pressure and fuel pressure must be released before opening fuel system.
  1. Release fuel pressure. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE  procedure. Connect fuel pressure gauge to the fuel rail.
  2. Turn ignition on with engine off. Using scan tool, actuate ASD fuel system test and note fuel pressure. Fuel pressure should be 43-53 psi (3.0-3.7 kg/cm2 ). If fuel pressure is within specification, go to next step. If fuel pressure is more than 53 psi (3.7 kg/cm2 ), perform NS-5: HIGH FUEL PRESSURE  . If fuel pressure is less than 43 psi (3.0 kg/cm2 ), perform NS-6: LOW FUEL PRESSURE  .
  3. Turn ignition off. Apply parking brake. Place shift lever in Neutral. Start engine. While monitoring fuel pressure, momentarily fully open throttle until engine speed is more than 3000 RPM. If fuel pressure does not decrease to less than 35 psi, (2.5 kg/cm2 ) at any time, test is complete. If fuel pressure decreases to less than 35 psi, (2.5 kg/cm2 ) at any time, go to next step.
  4. Shut engine off. Inspect chassis fuel supply line from fuel pump module on top of fuel tank to the engine for kinks or restrictions. See Fig 1 . If no kinks or restrictions exist on chassis fuel supply line, go to next step. If kinks or restrictions exist in chassis fuel supply line, release fuel pressure and repair or replace chassis fuel supply line as necessary. Perform TEST VER-2A  .

  5. Ensure ignition is off. Release fuel pressure. Remove test equipment. Remove fuel filter. Fuel filter is located on top of fuel tank, near fuel pump module. See Fig 1 . Fuel lines are permanently attached to fuel filter. When removing fuel filter, disconnect fuel lines at fuel pump module and chassis fuel supply line.
  6. Check fuel filter for restrictions. If fuel filter is restricted, replace fuel filter. Perform TEST VER-2A  . If fuel filter is not restricted, replace fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator mounted on bottom of fuel pump module located on top of fuel tank. Perform TEST VER-2A  .
