Bus Short To Battery

NOTE: After making any repairs, perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  1. Turn ignition off. If vehicle is not equipped with Transmission Control Module (TCM), go to next step. If vehicle is equipped with TCM, disconnect TCM located in engine compartment on right fenderwell. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO BATTERY, replace TCM. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO BATTERY, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM). PCM is located in engine compartment between left inner fender and power distribution center. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO BATTERY, go to step  15 . If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO BATTERY, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition off and disconnect CCD radio Black 2-pin connector from back of radio. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO BATTERY, replace radio. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO BATTERY, go to next step.
  4. Turn ignition off. If vehicle is not equipped with Compass/Mini-Trip Computer (CMTC), go to next step. If vehicle is equipped with CMTC, disconnect CMTC located behind overhead console. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO BATTERY, go to step  14 . If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO BATTERY, go to next step.
  5. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Controller Anti-Lock Brake (CAB) module. CAB module is located on right side of engine compartment and has a Black 25-pin connector. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO BATTERY, replace CAB module. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO BATTERY, go to next step.
  6. Turn ignition off. Disconnect instrument cluster. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO BATTERY, go to step  13 . If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO BATTERY, go to next step.
  7. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Heating/Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC) module. HVAC control module is part of heating-A/C control assembly in center of instrument panel. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO BATTERY, replace HVAC module. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO BATTERY, go to next step.
  8. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) connectors. BCM is located with junction block under driver's side instrument panel. See Figure . Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO BATTERY, go to step  12 . If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO BATTERY, go to next step.
  9. Turn ignition off and wait 2 minutes for air bag system back-up power source to discharge. Disconnect Air Bag Control Module (ACM) 13-pin connector. ACM is located under center of instrument panel. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO BATTERY, replace ACM. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO BATTERY, go to next step.
  10. Turn ignition off. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 3 (Violet/Brown wire) at BCM connector "A". See Figure . If voltage is more than 8 volts, repair short to voltage in Violet/Brown wire. If voltage is 8 volts or less, go to next step.
  11. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 34 (White/Black wire) at BCM Connector "A". If voltage is more than 8 volts, repair short to voltage in White/Black wire. If voltage is less than 8 volts, replace scan tool cable or scan tool as necessary.
  12. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 10 (Black/Light Green wire) at BCM connector "A". If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Black/Light Green wire. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace BCM.
  13. Turn ignition off. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 7 (Black/Light Green wire) at instrument cluster 13-pin connector. See Figure . If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Black/Light Green wire circuit. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace instrument cluster.
  14. Turn ignition off. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 3 (Black/Light Green wire) at Compass/Mini-Trip Computer (CMTC) connector. See Figure . If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Black/Light Green wire circuit. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace CMTC.
  15. Turn ignition off. Measure resistance between terminals No. 44 (Orange wire) and No. 59 (Violet/Brown wire) at Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connector C2. PCM is located in engine compartment between left inner fender and power distribution center. See Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, Orange wire and Violet/Brown wire are shorted together. Repair wiring as necessary. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, go to next step.
  16. Measure resistance between terminals No. 44 (Orange wire) and No. 60 (White/Black wire) at PCM connector C2. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, Orange wire and White/Black wire are shorted together. Repair wiring as necessary. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, replace PCM.
