Compass/Mini-Trip Computer Displaying OC

  1. Disconnect ambient temperature sensor connector. Sensor has a 2-pin connector with a Black/Light Blue wire and a Violet/Light Green wire and is located behind right center of front bumper. Connect a jumper wire between ambient temperature sensor connector terminals. Turn ignition on. Observe Compass/Mini-Trip Computer (CMTC) display. If CMTC displays SC, replace ambient temperature sensor. If CMTC does not display SC, disconnect jumper wire and go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect CMTC connector located behind overhead console. Connect a jumper wire between ground and Violet/Light Green wire at ambient temperature sensor connector. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, measure resistance at terminal No. 5 (Violet/Light Green wire) at CMTC connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, disconnect jumper wire and go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Violet/Light Green wire between CMTC and ambient temperature sensor.
  3. Connect a jumper wire between ground and Black/Light Blue wire at ambient temperature sensor connector. Using scan tool, measure resistance at terminal No. 2 (Black/Light Blue wire) of CMTC connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace CMTC. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Black/Light Blue wire between CMTC and ambient temperature sensor.
