Front Wipers Operating Constantly With Switch In Off Position
- Remove lower steering column cover. Disconnect multifunction switch connector. See Figure . Turn ignition on and observe front wipers. If wipers are on, go to next step. If wipers are off, replace multifunction switch.
- Using scan tool, select SENSORS and monitor intermittent wiper switch voltage. If voltage is 10 volts or less, go to next step. If voltage is more than 10 volts, check for short to voltage in Dark Green/Yellow wire between multifunction switch and Body Control Module (BCM). Repair wiring as necessary. If wiring is okay, replace BCM.
- Ensure ignition is on and wiper switch is off. Remove front wiper high/low relay from Power Distribution Center (PDC) in engine compartment next to battery. See Figure . Observe front wipers. If wipers are still on, go to next step. If wipers are off, go to step 6 .
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect wiper module connector. See Figure . Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 1 (Brown/White wire) at wiper module harness connector. If voltage is more than .5 volt, repair short to voltage in Brown/White wire between PDC and wiper module. If voltage is .5 volt or less, go to next step.
- Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 3 (Red/Yellow wire) at wiper module harness connector. If voltage is more than .5 volt, repair short to voltage in Red/Yellow wire between PDC and wiper module. If voltage is .5 volt or less, system is functioning properly at this time. Fault may be intermittent.
- Reinstall front wiper high/low relay. Replace wiper ON relay in PDC with a known-good relay. See Figure . If wipers stop operating, replace defective wiper ON relay. If wipers continue to operate, go to next step.
- Remove substitute wiper ON relay. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) connector "B". BCM is located with junction block under driver's side instrument panel. See Figure . Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 85 at wiper ON relay socket in PDC. If resistance is less than 100 ohms, repair short to ground in Red/Violet wire (ON relay control circuit) between wiper ON relay and BCM. If resistance is 100 ohms or more, replace BCM.
