Test NTC-9: Checking Intake Air Temp. Sensor

NOTE: Test applies only to 2.4L. When performing this test, DO NOT allow more than 5 minutes between measuring temperature of intake air temperature sensor with scan tool and measuring air temperature on inside of intake manifold with temperature probe.
  1. Turn ignition on with engine off. Using scan tool, measure and record temperature of intake air temperature sensor. Turn ignition off.
  2. Remove intake air temperature sensor from intake manifold. Intake air temperature sensor is screwed into rear of intake manifold, near cylinder head and contains a 2-pin connector. See Fig 1 .

  3. Using temperature probe, quickly measure air temperature on inside of intake manifold, where intake air temperature sensor is mounted. If temperature of intake air temperature sensor on scan tool is within 10 degrees of temperature obtained on temperature probe, intake air temperature sensor is okay. Test is complete. If temperature of intake air temperature sensor on scan tool is not within 10 degrees of temperature obtained on temperature probe, replace intake air temperature sensor. Perform TEST VER-2A  .
