Description & Operation

The shift interlock system is mechanically or electronically operated, depending on model application. System may me operated by cable connected between ignition switch and shifter, or by a solenoid mounted on upper steering column. With ignition switch in OFF or ACC position, the gearshift lever is locked in Park. With ignition switch in UNLOCK or ON/RUN positions, the gearshift lever is unlocked and allows gearshift lever movement to any position. The shift interlock system also prevents the ignition switch from being returned to OFF or ACC position unless gearshift lever is returned to Park.
