System Operation Check

  1. Turn ignition key to OFF position. Gearshift lever movement from Park should not be possible.
  2. NOTE: Brake pedal must be depressed for the following procedure if equipped with shift lock solenoid.
  3. Turn ignition key to UNLOCK or ON/RUN position. Gearshift lever movement from Park should be possible.
  4. Leave gearshift lever in any gear range except Park and attempt to return ignition key to OFF or ACC position. Ignition key movement to OFF or ACC position should not be possible.
  5. Return gearshift lever to Park and attempt to remove ignition key. Ignition key should be removable after returning key to OFF position. With ignition key removed, attempt to shift out of Park. Gearshift lever movement should not be possible.
  6. If system operation is not as specified, adjustment may be required. See ADJUSTMENTS  . If shift interlock system electrical components or circuits are suspect, diagnose as necessary. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
