Chime Inoperative With Driver Seat Belt Unfastened

  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect driver seat belt switch connector. Turn all lights off. Close all doors. Measure resistance between ground and driver seat belt switch connector terminal No. 2, ground circuit (Black wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Black wire.
  2. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and driver seat belt switch connector terminal No. 1, seat belt switch sense circuit (Light Green/Red wire). If voltage is more than 5.3 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 5.3 volts or less , go to step  4 .
  3. Check Light Green/Red wire between Body Control Module (BCM) connector C4 terminal No. 15 and driver seat belt switch connector terminal No.1 for short to voltage. See Fig 1 . If problem exists, repair wiring as necessary. If problem does not exist, replace BCM.
  4. Turn ignition off. Connect driver seat belt switch connector. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Ensure driver seat belt is unfastened. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, select BODY, BODY COMPUTER then INPUT/OUTPUT. Read SEAT BELT SW status. If scan tool displays CLOSED, replace BCM. If scan tool displays OPEN, go to next step.
  5. Turn ignition off. Disconnect driver seat belt switch connector. Connect a fused jumper wire between ground and driver seat belt switch connector terminal No. 1, seat belt switch sense circuit (Light Green/Red wire). Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, read SEAT BELT SW status. If scan tool displays OPEN, go to next step. If scan tool displays CLOSED, replace driver seat belt switch.
  6. Turn ignition off. Disconnect BCM connector C4. Measure resistance of driver seat belt switch sense circuit (Light Green/Red wire) between driver seat belt switch connector terminal No. 2 and BCM connector C4 terminal No. 15. See Fig 1 . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace BCM. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Light Green/Red wire.
