AIRBAG Warning Indicator Not Operating Properly

NOTE: After making any repairs, perform BODY CONTROL MODULES SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  1. Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Using scan tool, attempt to communicate with Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC). If scan tool communicates with ORC, go to next step. If scan tool does not communicate with ORC, perform NO RESPONSE FROM OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROLLER  test under COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM.
  2. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, retrieve ORC DTCs. If no ORC DTCs exist, go to next step. If any ORC DTCs exist, repair air bag system as necessary. For information on air bag DIAGNOSIS & TESTING, see lemon-25(R) AIR BAG SERVICE & REPAIR MANUAL, DOMESTIC & IMPORTED MODELS.
  3. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, retrieve DTCs. If no DTCs exist, go to next step. If any DTCs exist, perform appropriate test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE IDENTIFICATION  table under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  4. To start bulb test, turn ignition off, then on. If AIRBAG warning indicator does not illuminate for 5-10 seconds, replace instrument cluster. If AIRBAG warning indicator illuminates for 5-10 seconds, fault may be intermittent. Check related wiring and connectors for poor connections or damage to wiring harness. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Repair any problems found as necessary. If no problems are found, check if any Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) apply to vehicle. If no TSBs apply, test is complete.
