Low Washer Fluid Indicator Not Operating Properly
NOTE:
After making any repairs, perform BODY CONTROL MODULES SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST
under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Turn ignition off. Check washer fluid level. If washer fluid reservoir is full, go to next step. If washer fluid level is low, and low washer fluid level indicator does not illuminate, go to next step. If washer fluid level is low, and low washer fluid level indicator illuminates, go to step 6 .
- To start bulb test, turn ignition off, then on. Observe low washer fluid level indicator. If low washer fluid level indicator illuminates for 3-10 seconds, go to next step. If low washer fluid level indicator does not illuminate for 3-10 seconds, replace instrument cluster.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect washer fluid level switch connector. Measure resistance between ground and 2-pin washer fluid level switch connector terminal No. 1, ground circuit (Black wire). If resistance is less than 10 ohms, leave washer fluid level switch connector disconnected, and go to next step. If resistance is 10 ohms or more, repair open in Black wire.
- Disconnect instrument cluster connector C2. Measure resistance of washer fluid level switch sense circuit (Black/Tan wire) between instrument cluster connector C2 terminal No. 4 and washer fluid level switch connector. See Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, leave washer fluid level switch connector disconnected, and go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Black/Tan wire.
- Ensure instrument cluster connector C2 is properly connected. Connect a fused jumper wire between washer fluid level switch connector terminal No. 1, ground circuit (Black wire) and No. 2, washer fluid level switch sense circuit (Black/Tan wire). Using scan tool, select BODY, ELECTRO/MECH CLUSTER, then INPUTS/OUTPUTS. Read WASH FLUID status. If scan tool displays CLOSED, replace washer fluid level switch. If scan tool displays OPEN, replace instrument cluster.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect washer fluid level switch connector. Turn ignition on, and wait one minute. If low washer fluid indicator is still illuminated, leave washer fluid level switch connector disconnected, and go to next step. If low washer fluid indicator turns off, replace washer fluid level switch.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect instrument cluster connector C2. Measure resistance between ground and instrument cluster connector C2 terminal No. 4, washer fluid level switch sense circuit (Black/Tan wire). See Figure . If resistance is less than 100 ohms, repair short to ground in Black/Tan wire. If resistance is 100 ohms or more, replace instrument cluster.
