Deck Lid Release Solenoid Output Failure
NOTE:
After making any repairs, perform BODY CONTROL MODULES SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST
under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, clear Body Control Module (BCM) Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC). Press deck lid release switch several times. Using scan tool, retrieve BCM DTCs. If DECK LID RELEASE SOLENOID OUTPUT FAILURE DTC resets, go to next step. If DECK LID RELEASE SOLENOID OUTPUT FAILURE DTC does not reset, fault may be intermittent. Check related wiring and connectors for poor connections or damage to wiring harness. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Repair any problems found as necessary. If no problems are found, check if any Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) apply to vehicle. If no TSBs apply, test is complete.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect deck lid release solenoid/ajar switch connector. Turn ignition on. Connect a 12-volt test light between ground and deck lid release solenoid/ajar switch connector terminal No. 3, deck release solenoid control circuit (Black/White wire). See Fig 1 . If test light illuminates, leave deck lid release solenoid/ajar switch connector disconnected, and go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, leave deck lid release solenoid/ajar switch connector disconnected, and go to step 4 .
- Turn ignition off. Remove BCM from back of junction block. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage on deck lid release solenoid/ajar switch connector terminal No. 3, deck lid release solenoid control circuit (Black/White wire). If any voltage is present, repair short to voltage in Black/White wire. If no voltage is present, replace BCM.
- Turn ignition off. Measure resistance between ground and deck lid release solenoid/ajar switch connector terminal No. 1, ground circuit (Black wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, leave deck lid release solenoid/ajar switch connector disconnected, and go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Black wire.
- Connect a 12-volt test light between deck lid release solenoid/ajar switch connector terminal No. 1, ground circuit (Black wire) and terminal No. 3, deck release solenoid control circuit (Black/White wire). Observe test light while pressing deck lid release switch. If test light illuminates when switch is pressed, replace deck lid release solenoid/ajar switch. If test light does not illuminate when switch is pressed, leave deck lid release solenoid/ajar switch connector disconnected, and go to next step.
- Ensure ignition is off. Remove BCM from back of junction block. Measure resistance between ground and deck lid release solenoid/ajar switch connector terminal No. 3, deck release solenoid control circuit (Black/White wire). If resistance is less than 100, repair short to ground in Black/White wire. If resistance is 100 ohms or more, leave deck lid release solenoid/ajar switch connector disconnected, BCM removed, and go to next step.
- Measure resistance of deck release solenoid control circuit (Black/White wire) between deck lid release solenoid/ajar switch connector terminal No. 3 and terminal No. 8 at BCM connector on back of junction block. See Figure and Fig 1 . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace BCM. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Black/White wire.
