Engine Identification

NOTE: For repair procedures not covered in this article, see ENGINE OVERHAUL PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION.

Engine may be identified by eighth character of Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), stamped on a metal tab located near lower left corner of windshield.

Engine may also be identified by characters No. 20, 21 and 22 on line 2 of the body code plate. Body code plate is located in the driver-side door jam. The 2.7L engine is identified by combination of the characters EER.

Engine serial number may be required when ordering replacement parts. Engine serial number is located on rear of engine block, just below left cylinder head.
