DTC P1281: Engine Is Cold Too Long: Testing
NOTE:
To diagnose this DTC, manufacturer recommends allowing vehicle to sit overnight in order to have a totally cold engine. Extremely cold ambient outside temperatures may have caused this DTC to set. Before proceeding, ensure Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor is operating correctly.
Check coolant level. Add coolant if necessary. Start engine. Using scan tool, monitor engine coolant temperature during warm up cycle. If coolant temperature increases smoothly and reaches a minimum of 160°F (71°C), test is complete. If coolant temperature does not increase smoothly and reach a minimum of 160°F (71°C), repair cooling system as necessary. The most probable cause is a defective thermostat. Also, check for related technical service bulletins.
