Ignition Timing Check (Sebring Coupe & Stratus Coupe)

  1. Before proceeding, ensure engine coolant temperature is 176-203°F (80-95°C), lights and all accessories are turned off and transmission is in Park or Neutral. Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to 16-pin DLC. See Fig 1 .
  2. Connect timing light using timing light manufacturer's instructions. Start engine and let it idle. Ensure idle speed is about 700 RPM. Using scan tool, select actuator test item No. 17. Check base ignition timing. Press CLEAR on scan tool to stop actuator test.
  3. Check actual ignition timing. See IGNITION TIMING SPECIFICATIONS (SEBRING COUPE & STRATUS COUPE)  table. If base or actual ignition timing is not as specified, check the following:
    • Timing belt for proper installation.
    • Crankshaft position sensor and sensing blade for proper installation.
    • Check for DTCs. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article.
