Powertrain Verification Test VER-3

NOTE: If replacing Powertrain Control Module (PCM), the correct vehicle mileage and Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) must be programmed into PCM to prevent Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) from being stored in Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) module and Air Bag Control Module (ACM). If replacing PCM and vehicle is equipped with Sentry Key Immobilizer Module (SKIM), secret key data must also be updated to enable engine starting. See PROGRAMMING  .
  1. Inspect vehicle to ensure all engine components are connected properly. Reassemble and reconnect components as necessary. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Perform generator output test. See appropriate GENERATORS & REGULATORS article in STARTING & CHARGING SYSTEMS.
  2. Start engine and hold engine speed at 2000 RPM for at least 30 seconds. Cycle ignition off and on. Using scan tool, read DTCs. If DTC resets, or another DTC sets, perform appropriate test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS  .
  3. If another symptom exists, go to appropriate TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article for additional testing. If no DTCs are present and all components are functioning properly, repair is complete.
