Transmission Control Module: Notes
Vehicle speed readings for the speedometer are taken from the output speed sensor. The Transmission Control Module (TCM) must be calibrated to the different combinations of equipment available. Pinion factor allows the technician to program the TCM so that speedometer readings are correct. Pinion factor must be set when TCM is replaced.
The quick learn procedure customizes adaptive parameters of the TCM to the characteristics of the transmission to improve shift quality. Quick learn procedure should be performed if any of the following procedures are performed:
- Transaxle assembly replacement.
- TCM replacement.
- Solenoid/pressure switch assembly replacement.
- Clutch and/or seal replacement.
- Valve body replacement or recondition.
Before performing quick learn procedure, the following conditions must be met:
- Brakes must be applied.
- Engine speed must be more than 500 RPM.
- Throttle angle must be less than 3 degrees.
- Transmission must remain in Neutral until prompted to shift into Overdrive.
- Transmission must remain in Overdrive (after prompted) until procedure is complete.
- Calculated oil temperature must be 60-200°F (16-93°C).
