All Gauges Inoperative

NOTE: After making any repairs, perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  1. Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located on bottom of instrument panel, to left of brake pedal. See Figure . Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, select SYSTEM MONITORS and J1850 MODULE SCAN. If scan tool displays MIC PRESENT ON BUS, go to next step. If scan tool does not display MIC PRESENT ON BUS, repair as necessary. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE IDENTIFICATION  table under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Using scan tool, select BODY, MIC and PCM MONITOR. If scan tool does not display PCM INACTIVE ON BUS, go to next step. If scan tool displays PCM INACTIVE ON BUS, go to NO RESPONSE FROM PCM (PCI BUS)  under COMMUNICATIONS.
  3. Using scan tool, select BODY, MIC and MODULE DISPLAY. If scan tool does not display NO RESPONSE FROM MIC, go to next step. If scan tool displays NO RESPONSE FROM MIC, go to BUS +/- SIGNAL OPEN OR NO RESPONSE FROM INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under COMMUNICATIONS.
  4. Turn ignition off. Remove and inspect fuse No. 11 from fuse block. If fuse is open, replace fuse, then turn ignition on for one minute. Turn ignition off. If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is open, repair short to ground on Dark Blue/White wire.
  5. Disconnect Black 26-pin instrument cluster connector, located behind left upper instrument panel. Turn ignition on. Using a voltmeter, check voltage on instrument cluster connector terminal No. 15, fused ignition switch output start/run circuit (Dark Blue/White wire). See Figure . If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open Dark Blue/White wire.
  6. Turn ignition off. Using ohmmeter, check resistance between instrument cluster harness connector terminal No. 10, ground circuit (Black wire) and ground. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open Black wire. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace instrument cluster. See ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS - NEON article.
