Seat Belt Indicator Not Operating Properly

NOTE: After making any repairs, perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  1. Turn ignition off. Press trip rest button located at bottom of right gauge. Turn ignition on while releasing trip reset button. Gauges will move in increments and all indicators will turn on with exception of turn signal, high beam and foglight indicators. If seat belt indicator illuminates, go to next step. If seat belt indicator does not illuminate, go to step  5 .
  2. Disconnect Black 26-pin instrument cluster connector, located behind left upper instrument panel. Disconnect Black 2-pin seat belt switch connector, located on driver's side "B" pillar. Using ohmmeter, measure resistance of seat belt sense circuit (Light Green/Red wire) between instrument cluster harness connector terminal No. 25 and seat belt switch harness connector terminal No. 1. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open on Light Green/Red wire.
  3. Using ohmmeter, measure resistance between seat belt switch harness connector terminal No. 1, seat belt sense circuit (Light Green/Red wire) and ground. See Figure . If resistance is 5 ohms or more, go to next step. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground on Light Green/Red wire.
  4. Ensure seat belt is not fastened. Check resistance between seat belt switch terminals. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace instrument cluster. See ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS - NEON article. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, replace seat belt switch.
  5. Remove instrument cluster. See ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS - NEON article. Remove seat belt Light Emitting Diode (LED) from instrument cluster. Using a DVOM, select DIODE mode. Connect DVOM Black lead to LED negative (-) terminal. Connect DVOM Red lead to LED positive (+) terminal. If LED illuminates, replace instrument cluster. See ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS - NEON article. If LED does not illuminate, replace defective LED.
